Nine of CupsTarot Card Meaning & Interpretation
Nine of Cups/Chalices Minor Arcana Tarot Card Meaning
Symbolism and Interpretation
A woman robed in blue and gold. She is seated upon a blue throne, holding one chalice in her hand and with eight more chalices lined up at her feet. Behind her appears a cottage and a tree, with a full moon and lunar eclipse overhead.
Satisfaction with life. Contentment, gratitude, appreciation, emotional fulfillment. Wishes are fulfilled. One’s cups are full and orderly.
A time to live in the moment and enjoy the good things of life. Take the time to appreciate and savor experiences, create memories. Things will get busy again later.
The cups are poured out.
Wanting something for the wrong reasons. You get your wish but find that you wanted the wrong thing. Success brings problems that can ruin the things you truly value.
Dissatisfaction: nothing is ever good enough. Happiness is elusive… seeking fulfillment through external things when it will only be found within. A shopaholic or hoarder.
Overindulgence. Alcohol or drug abuse. One needs to tend to one’s health and take better care of oneself.
Selfishness and narcissism. Getting too greedy can cause you to lose everything. Things falling apart. One who thinks only of themselves and what they want, disregarding the impact of their choices on others.
Complacency. Taking one’s abundance for granted. Not acknowledging the role others played in helping one to succeed.
With my Star & Sunflower 9 of Chalices, I wanted to convey the feeling of being engaged with the success and fulfilment, vs (my personal gripe) with the RWS where the guy has always seemed to me somewhat smug and complacent, with all his aquisitions lined up like trophies on the shelf behind him. I wanted to convey the happiness of the collector saying: “look at the awesome fan I just found for my collection, or “ooooh, check out the complete set of books I picked up”.
